The Second Spirit of Tea Tour with Spirit Tea and Marco

Tea Geeks, the time has come again!

For those of you who knew about it last time, our Chicago-based friends Spirit Tea and beverage systems company Marco partnered up for a roving tea tour across these United States. Well, they've decided it was fun enough to do again, only this time through Texas, North Carolina, and New York City!

What does this tour entail? Each location is divided into two segments: A hands-on seminar diving into how to accurately dial-in your tea brewing skills, led by Spirit Tea co-founders Taylor Cowan and Jordan Scherer, and then a Matcha Latte Art Throwdown. Last time, Scherer told me that the goal was to make this interactive. “We are lucky that tea is an industry that involves all of the senses. When we talk about tea brewing from a chemical perspective it’s important attendees experience these elements viscerally, so it made sense to bring this material right to their doorstep.”

Spirit Tea has extensive experience training and curating tea programs, whether it be for coffee shops across the country or for Michelin-rated restaurant Alinea in Chicago. Utilizing their exceptional selection of seasonal teas and the volumetric, variable temperature controlled Marco Mix water boiler, they’ll be demonstrating and discussing:

  • Chemistry of the Tea Leaf: Primary chemical compounds of the tea leaf and their role in flavor.

  • How to Dial-In Tea: How to unlock tastes from your tea.

  • Barista Best Practices: Making your tea workflow intentional and presentable.

  • Seasonal Teas & Their Importance: A tasting highlighting a broad range of terrors and varieties.

The events will be hosted by local, high-end coffee shops in their respective cities. This too is where the Latte Art Throwdowns will be held, something very familiar to pro baristas, but relatively obscure in the world of tea.

To get a better idea of what it's like, you can read about my experience on the road with them a few months ago during the original tour.

These events are totally free and open to the public! No registration is necessary. You can also read more about The Spirit of Tea Tour with Marco on their website. Find your city below to attend:
